Member Spotlight: David Schmutz

David Schmutz is the founder and owner of Smarter Scapes LLC, a Nashville hardscaping and landscaping company specializing in paver overlays, retaining walls, outdoor living spaces, and artificial turf. His start in the business came early, mowing lawns at age 12, and the company traces its roots to 1992, when it began as a small landscape operation with the idea that Nashville homeowners deserve outdoor spaces as beautiful as the Tennessee hills around them.

Over three decades, Schmutz grew that idea into one of Middle Tennessee's established hardscaping teams. He pioneered the mechanical paver overlay technique in Nashville, developed proprietary installation methods designed to make projects faster, cleaner, and longer-lasting, and built supplier partnerships with Techo-Bloc, Belgard, and County Materials.

The company holds an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau and operates from West Hillwood Drive, with a second location in The Nations. His stated mission is to deliver exceptional value through premium materials, expert craftsmanship, and honest service on every project.

We are proud to have David Schmutz as part of the Music City Work Club community.
